The management of Occupational Health risks is challenging for any organisation, due in part to the often long latency between exposure to the health hazard and the onset of the effect or illness.  For this reason Step Change in Safety Workplace Health Workgroup, jointly headed by Alan Johnstone, Operations Director, AMEC and Simon Seaton, Vice President UK, Halliburton was tasked to develop a method to review internal HSE management systems so that senior managers can evaluate their current arrangements and target resources to improve effective control.  In addition to the assessment tool an authoritative list of chemical hazards and more importantly a list of mitigations has been developed by the workgroup. 

The Workgroup has established a process where companies can apply to have their organisation independently assessed, using the assessment tool.  This assessment will be carried out, free of charge, by a team of two health professionals, the process being co-ordinated by the Step Change Support Team.
